At the first DVZ Forum, “Logistics Under Power”, held in Düsseldorf, it became clear that the switch to electric lorries offers the logistics sector significant opportunities, but continues to present considerable challenges. There was a consensus among participants that electric mobility in road freight transport makes economic and environmental sense in the long term — provided that companies, the energy sector and infrastructure partners work closely together.
The discussion focused primarily on the topics of electricity supply, charging infrastructure and site development. Experts emphasised that it is not only the vehicles themselves, but also access to sufficient electricity and smart energy management that will determine the success of the transition. They stressed that it is particularly important to integrate the logistics and energy sectors in order to better coordinate charging points, grid capacity and operational processes.
Case studies from the industry have shown that many companies are already taking concrete steps, yet are often faced with lengthy approval times, limited grid connections and complex planning processes. Nevertheless, optimism prevails: once the infrastructure and processes are in place, electric lorries can offer economic benefits and open up new operational opportunities — for example, in cross-border transport or in zero-emission transport services.
The forum made one thing particularly clear: the electrification of road freight transport is not merely a technical issue, but a collective endeavour that can only be advanced through cooperation, the exchange of experiences and bold decisions.
