The role of the editor is changing. In the English-speaking world, the term ‘live journalism’ is used to describe the trend whereby journalists – who were originally primarily writers – are increasingly producing formats such as podcasts, panel discussions and videos. It is therefore fitting that the Eurailpress Career Boost will take place for the third time this year at the world’s largest trade fair for rail and transport technology, to be held in Berlin in September.
Eurailpress is the umbrella brand for all the rail-related media publications of the DVV Media Group, which include renowned magazines such as EI – Der Eisenbahningenieur, ETR – Eisenbahntechnische Rundschau, Signal & Draht, Rail Business and Bahn Manager. Career Boost is organised in collaboration between Eurailpress and InnoTrans, which takes place every two years. In the years when InnoTrans is not held, the event has already been staged twice in a purely digital format.
At Career Boost, young, up-and-coming talent are given the chance to present themselves live for 90 seconds to companies that are recruiting. Afterwards, the companies can get in touch with the applicants. In recent years, this has already led to quite a few job placements, whether at Alstom or the ÖBB.
Most of the candidates are aged between 20 and 30. Many have studied electrical engineering, civil engineering, computer science or business administration. However, there have also been candidates who were looking for a job as train drivers – a profession which, as is well known, is in particularly high demand.
With their live performances in front of an audience – whether digitally in front of a camera or in person – all candidates demonstrate exceptional courage. Because it is not just qualifications but also the person themselves that play an important role, the events are always exciting to watch. This is yet another reason why it’s worth attending a Career Boost. This year, the event will take place on Wednesday 23 September 2026, from 2 pm to 4 pm, on the stage in Hall 21E in the careers area of the exhibition centre.
