On 10 November 2025, 130 enthusiastic individuals from various logistics companies once again planted around 2,000 young deciduous trees in the Klövensteen forest. Under the motto ‘Hamburg’s logistics sector plants the future’, the aim is not only to support the growth of a more resilient mixed deciduous forest, but also to secure the drinking water supply of the future. Unlike conifers, deciduous trees significantly promote the formation of groundwater. Each deciduous tree planted provides around 200 litres of additional groundwater per year.
A team from DVV Media Group once again actively supported the initiative, heading into the forest armed with spades and gloves. This time, Senator Dr Melanie Leonhard, President of the Ministry of Economics, Labour and Innovation of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, also recognised the long-standing commitment of Hamburg’s logistics industry in her welcome speech to the many motivated volunteers.
In the five years that the Logistics Initiative Hamburg has been organising the campaign together with Klimapatenschaft GmbH, a total of around 15,000 trees have already been planted – with an impressive survival rate of approximately 95%, according to district forester Nils Fischer. This can probably be attributed to the great care taken by those planting the trees. 💚
Finally, everyone warmed up together with a hot stew and reflected on how easy it can be to do good in a sustainable way!
