LOGISTICS PILOT: What skills will tomorrow’s world of work require?

How are technological progress, digital transformation and automation changing the world of work? This is the subject of the 32-page November issue of LOGISTICS PILOT. In the maritime industry, employees are benefiting from new technologies and comparatively simplified processes. In some areas, jobs are being eliminated, while in others they are changing or even leading to entirely new occupational fields. The trade magazine highlights the many different paths into logistics and the struggle of companies to attract the best talent. It also looks at how people with a migrant background can be successfully integrated into the maritime working world in Bremen and Lower Saxony. German seaports are preparing for the future with a research project: their ‘PortSkill 4.0’ project, which has been running since 2021 and focuses on setting up a digital test and training centre, is nearing completion. Starting in 2026, entire workforces will be able to develop, expand, practise and train their digital skills in a practical manner in this type of digital ‘dojo’. In the future, schools, vocational training institutions, the employment agency, job centres and other players in the maritime sector will also benefit from this. The articles feature numerous experts from the maritime industry, politics, research and academia.
