E-commerce has worked its way out of its post-Covid slump and is recording higher growth rates again. Back to normal, then? Not at all, because the market has changed dramatically. The industry association BEVH speaks of a “platformization of e-commerce”.
Overseas providers in particular – above all Temu and Shein, but also TikTok, Alibaba and JD.com – are pushing into the local market and rewriting the laws of online retail and the corresponding logistics, for example by shipping goods directly without the involvement of a retailer or carrier.
How are local retailers and online retailers reacting to the new competitors? How can logistics and digitalization help to better meet the changing consumer demands with new and efficient processes? What business models are emerging for freight forwarders and logistics providers? And how must logistics real estate and intralogistics be designed to meet the requirements of modern omnichannel and e-commerce logistics?
These were the central questions at the 2nd DVZ “Future Commerce” conference in Hamburg.
